Fashion Swap: a fun way to get clothes for FREE!

My friend Rebecca has been apparently organizing fashion swaps at our church for a few years now. I got to attend my first one ever last nigt. I had such a positive experience and wanted to share with you how it worked in case you wanted to organize something similar with your group of friends, church, etc.

First we were asked to bring clothes we no longer wanted. The ask was that they were keeping with current styles and in good condition. Once I arrived at the church, I was shocked to see how many women were in attendance and how it was set up. It looked like a store!

 
There were three rounds, each lasting about 10-15 minutes. During each round, each lady could pick ONE item. This way there was some control! After the third round, we were able to take as much as we wanted. It was so much fun! There were shoes, handbags, dresses, pants, jewelry...you name it. 

 

I was honestly a little nervous how this would go. After all, what if I left empty handed? What if I didn't find anything I wanted?  Well guess what - I ended up with a garbage bag FULL of new clothes! My favorite find was probably a Polo black sweater. I also found a great brown wool sweater, a couple dressier shirts, a couple skirts and some basic tees. I'm known to usually wear jeans, one of my shirts from my past races, sneakers, and a sweatshirt. My wardrobe got a nice little update last night and it didn't cost me a thing!

Free Lowe's Build & Grow workshop for kids this Saturday

 

 

This Saturday from 10-11, you can take your little one to Lowe's for free to build this "LoweBot." According to their site, it's a car that's also a robot. (So that sort of makes it like getting two toys, right?)

Dr. Suess event at Target stores this Saturday!

 

 

Did anyone else catch that in the Target ad this weekend there was an announcement for a FREE Dr. Suess party this Saturday, February 27th at Target stores?

It runs from 9 - 11 a.m., and there will be giveaways, snacks, and fun. I'm  not too sure what more to expect, but if you're looking for something fun and free to do with the kids this weekend, might be worth a quick drop in!

If anyone knows more about this event, I'd love for you to jump in and share. 
 

Local readers: head to your library for FREE passes to museums!

 

Awhile ago, a couple friends of mine mentioned they were checking out passes to the Tacoma Children's Museum from our local library! I decided to give this a try, and sure enough...our Tacoma library branch had passes to the Children's Museum in Tacoma and the Tacoma Art Museum! I called the Tacoma Public Library today to learn more. Here's what I found out.

::EACH library branch in both the Tacoma Public Library and Pierce County Library systems has these available for checkout. I believe they are in fairly limited quantities, so be fair warned.

::You cannot place a hold on the passes, however, you can call ahead or go online to their websites to see if they have them currently checked in.

::It appears each pass is good for four admissions! (So don't think you have to check out more than one for your family.)

::These are good for seven days. At my library, the passes were placed in a DVD cover and displayed on the wall.

Also, please remember you can visit the Children's Museum for free the first Friday of each month (as well as every Thursday from June - August), and the Tacoma Art Museum, as well as the Glass Museum are free on the third Thursday of each month as part of the art walk!

Test drive a 2011 Kia Sorento get $25 prepaid VISA!

From now through March 15th, you can score a prepaid $25 VISA card by test driving a 2011 Kia Sorento! Here's how it works. Before you get to the dealership, you'll want to make sure to print and fill out this form and bring it with you.

Have an original dealer representative sign the e-certificate and mail it in with a postmark of no later than 4/15.

There are some interesting "nitty-gritty" points to this, and rest assured, I've read through all of them for you:

1. You must be 18 or over and have a valid driver's license (I sure hope the latter is common sense, but just in case, there you have it).
2. One per household.
3. Once you receive it - my advice is to USE IT. After the first 6 months the card is issued, it will deduct a lovely "$3 monthly maintenance fee" (because it must cost them SOOO much money to "maintain" it). And after 12 months? Forget about it; it will become inactive. So, use it or lose it.

Stipulations aside, I'm thinking this would be a wonderful way to buy groceries, diapers, gas, or something less practical you've been hankering for.
