The following information is current and correct to the best of my ability as of 3/21/09. I will do my best to periodically review this page to ensure it remains updated. Please contact me if you see anything that needs to be added or amended.
SAFEWAY
Safeway accepts store coupons (found usually in their ad), manufacturer's coupons, and Internet coupons. You may use a store coupon and a manufacturer's coupon on the same item (unless either coupon strictly prohibits). Pay attention to the restrictions on the store coupons - many require a $10 minimum purchase and limit one.Safeway has a "Club Card" and many of their sales and promotions are linked to using this card. You can obtain one for free by filling out this form and bringing it to the store. You can also load P&G e-coupons directly onto your Club Card. When you purchase the item associated with the coupon, the savings will automatically drop off at the point of sale.
Some Safeway stores do double manufacturer's coupons, but this appears to be regional. (The ones in my area do not.)
ALBERTSONS
Albertsons accepts store coupons (found usually in their ad), manufacturer's coupons, and Internet coupons. You may use a store coupon and a manufacturer's coupon on the same item. Please note that most stores no longer accept competitor coupons and the ones that do will be stopping on or around April 4, 2009.
Albertsons has a "Rewards Card" and many of their sales and promotions are linked to using this card. You can obtain one for free by visiting their website.
Since Albertsons started phasing out competitor coupons, they have included "double coupons" more frequently in their weekly ads. Pay attention to the fine print on these coupons. They will tell you which coupons they will permit for doubling, and there is generally a limit of how many they will allow per shopping trip (usually 4).
WALGREENS
(Please note that each Walgreens store may vary in their own coupon acceptance. The following guidelines are what you'll find to be true at most stores.)
Walgreens accepts store coupons (found primarily in their weekly ads and the EasySaver Rebate book), manufacturer's coupons, and Internet coupons. You may use a store coupon and a manufacturer's coupon on the same item.
Walgreens currently has a rebate program, although the "word on the street" is that April will be the final month. You may use coupons to purchase items on rebate.
Walgreens frequently runs "Register Rewards" deals. You will find these deals in their weekly ads. Basically, you purchase a set number or dollar amount of qualifying products and receive a coupon that reads "Save $X.xx off your next order." Consider these like a gift certificate, good on just about anything in the store (there are a few exclusions, so you'll want to read the fine print before redeeming). A few important things to note about the Register Rewards:
- You may use coupons in your purchase of Register Reward items.
- When redeeming, please understand that Walgreens treats these as manufacturer's coupons and they require you have at least as many items as manufacturer's coupons in a single transaction. (For instance, if you were to buy a $10 item and use a $2 off coupon and a $5 off Register Rewards, you'd have 1 item and 2 coupons. This won't work. To remedy, you'd need to purchase a small "filler" item.)
- You cannot "roll" Register Rewards onto the same deal. This means if there is a Register Rewards deal for toothpaste, you can't attempt to use that Register Rewards coupon on the toothpaste deal again. You could, however, use it on a different Register Rewards deal.
RITE AID
Rite Aid accepts store coupons (found mainly in their store ad) and manufacturer coupons. They do not accept Internet coupons. You can stack a store coupon with a manufacturer's coupon on the same item. This may be confusing because many Rite Aid coupons read "manufacturer's coupon" at the top of them. However, when you glance at the barcode, they start with an "RA," which indicates it is in fact a store coupon. True manufacturer's coupons start with the number "5."
Rite Aid has a monthly rebate programthat is easy to use. You can create an online ID and password and then simply enter a few pieces of data from your receipts as you purchase rebate items. In general, you will receive a rebate check within 2-3 weeks of submitting. You may use coupons to purchase rebate items.
Additionally, you may wish to sign up for MyRiteAid to receive additional money-saving offers and coupons.
